The current trend for greater numbers of air travellers is forcing almost all airports to expand rapidly, creating more opportunities for retail space and duty free sales.

Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport, in Saudi Arabia, is also affected by its position as the air gateway to and from Mecca. Passenger traffic doubled between 1998 and 2010 and now approximately 20 million travellers pass through it every year. This means tougher competition, but also greater opportunity for retailers.
